Have you ever craved for something sweet, salty and spicy at the same time but don’t know what to eat? Well, that’s how I decided to cook bacon and get creative — candied bacon! The spicy candied bacon is perfect for nibbling on while watching TV or when I’m busy at work (I work from home!). Also, candied bacon can be left out and kept in the fridge for future use.
Mostly, I use brown sugar for this recipe. Sometimes I make candied bacon with white sugar for breakfast if I ran out of brown sugar.. Or sometimes I cook it in the oven, add some spices and drizzle it with maple syrup over pancakes. When we have plenty of bacon, I make sure to save some smoked candied bacon so I can crumble them into bits and add them to salads, soups or desserts.
Satisfy Your Cravings with this Candied Bacon!
Spicy candied bacon with a cup of coffee is my get-up-and-go breakfast when my days are hectic! I even save some for an afternoon snack so I can nibble in peace while the kids are in school.
Imagine snacking on smoked candied bacon with your feet up, a nice cup of coffee, while watching a movie…Ah! Peace and quiet!
Cleaning The Pan And Rack
My friends asked me what my secret is in cleaning the aluminum baking pan and stainless steel wire rack.
Since the aluminum baking pan is NOT dishwasher-safe, I let it cool then rinse it with water before soaking it in warm water and mild dish washing liquid.
The stainless steel wire racks are safe to wash in the dishwasher. However, there are instances that food does get stuck. What I do is sprinkle the grid with baking soda, douse it with white vinegar and wait for the foaming to stop. Once it stops foaming, I just soak it in hot water. The baking soda deodorizes the racks while the white vinegar loosens up the residue. As you see, warm water is your best friend.
So if you forget to cover your aluminum pans with foil, don’t fret! They are easy to clean! Don’t forget to dry them well after washing.
Last Note…
Enjoy this recipe! The kids will also love this recipe, just remove the spices if they don’t like it spicy. I prepared this for my niece and she loved it!

Candied Bacon
Ingredients
- 15 pieces bacon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional
- 1 tsp chili powder optional
Instructions
- Combine all the spices.
- Line your half sheet baking pan with aluminum foil to catch the drippings. You can use them for gravy for your future menus!
- Arrange the bacon slices on the cooling rack.
- Sprinkle both sides of the bacon with the mixed spices.
- Bake them at 400 degrees F for about 20 to 25 minutes until the bacon is crispy. Just like with my previous post on how to cook hassle-free bacon in the oven, you don’t need to flip the bacon slices!
- Bring them out of the oven and let them cool for about 3 minutes before serving.
