I know this is a cliche but one of my resolutions is too lose weight and eat healthier. Due to all that feasting over the holidays, I know I need to lose all the excess fats, calories, and sugar. That is how I came about the intermittent fasting method.
I like to research on stuff before I try something. One thing I’ve learned is that intermittent fasting not only helps us lose weight but teaches us patience, discipline and healthy eating.
Health benefits of intermittent fasting
Intermittent fasting gives us full control of food intake and eating frequency. To appreciate this fact, we must understand what happens to the body when you eat (“fed” state) and when we fast (“fast” state). The “fed” state is from the time we start eating up to 5 hours after eating. It is where food is broken down into nutrients and taken into the body. In contrast, the “fast” state is when we do not eat anything 8 to 12 hours after the last meal or post-absorptive stage where fats are easily burned by the body processes.
But, is intermittent fasting safe? Generally, it is considered safe for most people. However, those with specific medical conditions must obtain a doctor’s advice before fasting. Most practitioners swear that fasting helps them to lose weight effectively. Based on research, here are some benefits of intermittent fasting.
1. Weight loss
2. Increases body metabolism
3. Long Life
4. Slows down the aging process
5. Improves brain and mental function
6. Improves heart health
7. Lowers blood pressure
8. Reduces risks of illnesses such as liver, heart, kidneys, and cancer

Drinking During the Fast
During the fast, consuming non-caloric beverages such as water, plain black coffee or tea is highly encouraged. Load up yourself with tons of water. You must always keep hydrated for your body to function normally.
Conclusion
Yes, I intend to lose weight. But I also want to live longer and have a healthier lifestyle. I am confident that intermittent fasting will help me discipline myself when it comes to eating and help optimize my bodily functions and processes. I am hoping that I can influence my family and friends, too!
